FUTURE UNSURE

Former Germany and Bayern Munich legend Jurgen Klinsmann has said that defender Carlos Bocanegra faces an uncertain future with the United States national team if he continues playing for Scottish club Rangers next season.

After a lot of financial difficulties, Rangers have been demoted to the third division of Scottish football. Even though they have secured promotion to the second division, it is unlikely to please manager Klinsmann. He has said that the defender should consider moving away from the Scottish club and play for a club in a top-flight.

Bocanegra is considered as one of the important players for the national team and he has made more than 100 appearances during his stellar career. However, he has a contract with Rangers for one more season and it looks unlikely that he is going to move in the summer. Klinsmann has said that playing in the second division will not be an ideal test for someone who wants to play international football. Even though Klinsmann refused to rule out Bocanegra being called up for the national team, he did admit that there are several players competing for his position.

Klinsmann has taken some controversial decisions in recent months. He has been extremely cold towards striker Landon Donovan, who recently returned from a four-month sabbatical.
“Next year, they are in the second division which is the third highest division in Scotland. Rangers is Rangers, one of the biggest clubs in history. But that division in Scotland, I’m not sure if that’s where you want to be.

Players make their own decisions and they have to deal with the consequences of that. Carlos is aware of that and knows at the end of the day that its a continual competition,” said Klinsmann. There is a lot of pressure on Klinsmann after a poor run of results.
