USA MIDFIELDER SET FOR UCL START

 

USA midfielder Weston McKennie is in line to make his first start in this season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL). The young box-to-box midfielder is set to be a part of the Juventus XI for the first time in the Champions League this season ahead of the matchdayfour clash with Hungarian side Ferencvaros at the Juventus Stadium on Tuesday night.


Before now, the USA midfielder has featured in two Champions League games and they were both as a second half substitute. Weston McKennie missed out on the Champions League opener at Ukrainian club Dynamo Kyiv due to the fact that he tested positive for Covid-19. On matchday 2, he came on for Swedish international DejanKulusevski with 15 minutes left of the meeting with Spanish La Liga giants at the Juventus Stadium. He could not prevent his team from losing 2-0 to Barcelona with Frenchman OusmaneDembele and Argentine superstar Lionel Messi getting the goals for the Spaniards.

Weston Mckennie Ready To Prove His Worth With The USMNT

Schalke 04 midfielder Weston McKennie is hoping to prove his worth on the international stage with the USA national team after making himself a first-team regular in the Bundesliga this term. The 19-year-old, who recently recovered from a knee problem, played the entire 90 minutes during his club’s 1-0 triumph over Mainz, which ensured that the Royal Blues remained second behind run-away leaders Bayern Munich.


Speaking after the game, the Texas native was asked about his hopes of another a recall to the USA squad, to which he replied: “You never know because we have good people in the preliminary roster. We also have young people that are coming up that are always making an impact, making a statement whenever they do come in. It’ll be exciting if I do get the call-up. I hope I do, and if I do then I’ll prove I belong there.”
