USA Qualifies for the Semi-Finals for World Cup

Megan Rapinoe takes over the headline as she took the USA through to the semi-finals of World Cup for women on Friday. The United States defeated France by 2-1 in Paris for crushing the hopes of the hosting nation. The free-kick by Rapinoe’s into 5 minutes in this quarter-final helped in evading a large number of players in the penalty box on the way to the net for stunning the home crowd at Parc des Princes.

Thereafter, USA took on the pressure prior to offering the knockout blow almost in the middle of the second half when Megan Rapinoe turned the low center by Tobin Heath, even if Wendie Renard had pulled a goal back on France for setting a tense finish. The team of Jill Ellis held on and proceeded on to the showdown of the semi-final with England on the following Tuesday where they will make an attempt to retain the crown and secure a win in World Cup in 8th edition. This is going to be their 4th win.

Once again, they have shown how hard they are going to fight for holding on to their title. Now, they have managed to win last 10 of the World Cup matches. Rapione had scored both the goals in their win against Spain the last round. She took the tally for the tournament, 5 goals on her 157th cap. In the meantime, France seems to have left the tournament with few regrets. France was the team that defeated the USA in 2 years that lead up to the World Cup. However, they failed to do justice before an expecting audience. It was Rapione who promoted the anticipation of the game. Also, the weather acted like fuel to fire with the temperature soaring to an unimaginable degree in France.
